Welcome to the Nanaimo Group of Artists...

The Nanaimo Group of Artists (formerly the Nanaimo Art Group) was founded in 1947 by Jean Davis and Emily Kneen, and has its roots in a spirit of painters inspired by other painters. In the early years, classes were held in army huts at Pauline Haarer School, the Occidental Hotel and the offices of William Barraclough, who served as President of the Nanaimo Group of Artists from 1956-1959.

The group meets September through May on Friday Mornings usually from 9am - 12:00pm at the Rotary Fieldhouse 850 Third St. During summer months, members meet at various locations throughout Nanaimo for plein air sketching and painting. Weekly activities include independent painting, critiques and a range of workshops.
