Brenda Gail Pon
As a Cree Metis painter, I am inspired by my peoples’ history,
the culture and the legends. I am moved by the beauty of nature
and enjoy nothing more than walking by the water with my dog.
I feel that it is my duty and privilege to learn as much as I can and
share my culture through the painted medium.
My belief is: “We are given a task as artists to share what we see
and feel, to open the awareness of those viewing the art and to
have them feel and experience with abandon”.
Using a mixture of traditional and contemporary themes; I apply
texture, fabric and textured shapes to help convey the feel of the
time in the pictures. I choose the medium I use as per the subject.
My subjects are varied, it depends on where I am at, if my
meditation went well or if I have a burr in my craw (if you know
what I mean).
All in all, I love what I do. Painting is like meditation, you stay in
the present, focused. It is the best way to live my life.
